Hoi An in Vietnam: Where to Stay and What to Do in 2–3 Nights

Hoi An in Vietnam is an easy day trip from Da Nang, but staying two or three nights gives you time to explore the trading town early, spend a morning in a craft village and decide whether to add a beach afternoon. Choose your base according to how you want to spend your mornings and evenings.

Choose between the old town, countryside and coast

Stay near the Ancient Town if you want to walk to heritage buildings and restaurants. Ask where a car can drop you off and whether there are stairs to your room. A countryside stay near Cam Chau or Tra Que gives you easier access to cycling routes. An Bang works well if you want to start the day by the sea and visit the old town later. Factor in evening transport when comparing the three areas.

Hoi An Ancient Town in Vietnam
Staying near the Ancient Town leaves time for a morning walk and an evening by the river.

Explore the Ancient Town in the morning

Pick a few merchant houses and assembly halls and take time to see how they relate to the riverfront. A local guide can explain how trade shaped the town and point out details in the courtyards and shopfronts. Ask which interiors are open and what your ticket covers on the day. Return to the river after dinner and use our Hoi An living heritage guide for more context on local traditions.

Spend a morning in a village

Choose Tra Que if you want to learn how herbs and vegetables are grown and used in local cooking. If craft is your focus, head to Thanh Ha and ask whether you can watch a potter or try shaping clay yourself. If you plan to cycle, ask for a route that fits your confidence in traffic. Keep a workshop or cooking lesson in reserve if rain changes your plans.

Plan your Da Nang transfer and beach time

Save the address and map pin for your accommodation, especially if it sits in a lane or outside the center. Arrange pickup around your flight or train arrival and leave time for traffic on departure day. For a beach afternoon at An Bang, check local swimming conditions. If you are deciding whether to split your stay, compare the neighborhoods in our Da Nang travel guide.

Build a flexible two- or three-night stay

On Day 1, settle in and walk by the river. Spend Day 2 in the Ancient Town, with time for lunch and a craft session. On Day 3, choose Tra Que or Thanh Ha in the morning. If you have a third night, spend the afternoon at An Bang or take more time in town and leave on Day 4. See our two-week Vietnam itinerary for an example of how Hoi An fits into a longer trip.
